Telcordia Trademark Fair Use Guidelines

Telcordia "trademarks" include the Telcordia logo and other designs owned and used by Telcordia (collectively referred to herein as "logos"), as well as Telcordia product and service names (collectively referred to herein as "product names"). Telcordia reserves all rights of ownership of its trademarks.

Use of Telcordia Logos

Telcordia carefully limits the use of its logos. Express written permission of Telcordia is required prior to another company's use of Telcordia logos. To obtain permission to use any Telcordia logo, contact your Telcordia representative or the Telcordia Call Center at 1.800.521.2673 (U.S. and Canada) or 1.732.699.5800 (All other countries).

Telcordia "trademarks" include the Telcordia logo and other designs owned and used by Telcordia (collectively referred to herein as "logos"), as well as Telcordia product and service names (collectively referred to herein as "product names"). Telcordia reserves all rights of ownership of its trademarks.

Fair Use of Telcordia Product Names

"Fair use" of trademarks allows third parties to make reference (text ONLY) to Telcordia product names. The following guidelines are published to ensure proper use and reference to Telcordia product names.

  1. Use of Telcordia product names by third parties is allowed by Telcordia without permission or license when specifically referring to Telcordia products. Example: TIRKS is a resource management OSS.
  2. Use of Telcordia product names by third parties is allowed by Telcordia without permission or license when indicating that a Telcordia product is compatible with another product. Examples: AAA is compatible with TIRKS software.

Please note that the emphasis should be on your product name and any accompanying packaging produced by your company.

General Rules for Proper Reference to Telcordia Product Names

General rules for proper usage of product names include:

  1. The first use of each Telcordia product name mentioned in communications must be identified in a footnote or attribution. The attribution must be located either on the page/screen where the Telcordia product name is used, or in the legal section of the communication or site in which it is referenced. Please note that laws concerning use of trademarks or product names vary by country. Always consult a local attorney for additional guidance. Example: Telcordia is a registered trademark of Telcordia Technologies, Inc. in the United States, other countries, or both.
  2. In the United States, the first reference in text to all Telcordia product names should be preceded by Telcordia and followed by the proper trademark symbol. The proper symbol for registered product names is ®. The proper symbol for product names which are the subject of pending applications or are used in accordance with common law trademark principles is ™. Rules for marking product names differ by country. You may need to seek guidance from a trademark professional. Example: Telcordia® Activator allows rapid, efficient use of the network resources that you've already built.
  3. Do not change the form or representation of the product name, including capitalization or punctuation.

Use of "Telcordia" as a Company Name

"Telcordia" in text is both a trademark (product name) of Telcordia Technologies Inc., and an abbreviation of its company name. When "Telcordia" is used to identify the company Telcordia Technologies Inc., it is called a trade name. Trade name usage typically applies when referring to a company as opposed to a particular product. It is permissible to use Telcordia as a possessive if you are referring to Telcordia the company. In that case, the name does not identify goods or services (which are legally the domain of trademarks).

Incorrect Use of Telcordia Trademarks

  • Do not omit a footnote/attribution for Telcordia trademarks.
  • Do not alter the approved Telcordia trademark.
  • Do not create any new logo for Telcordia or Telcordia product names.
  • Do not incorporate any Telcordia product names into your company's product names.
  • Do not incorporate any Telcordia product names into the root domain of any web site owned by your company.
  • Do not misspell when using the name Telcordia in text.
  • Do not connect your company name with Telcordia product names.
  • Do not use the Telcordia trademark name for a product or service as a noun, or in the plural form.
  • Do not misspell or incorrectly capitalize Telcordia trademarks. Always include the word Telcordia before the trademarked Telcordia name on the first usage.
